Westview's "Main Street...USA" Slated For Completion

DAYVILLE- Phase II of Westview Health Care Center's renovation project is underway with the creation of Main Street...USA.

Following the relocation of most Westview residents to its new, state-of-the-art facility in May, the remaining 53-year-old building is being creatively renovated to resemble quaint shops along a busy downtown northeastern Connecticut scenic setting called "Main Street...USA". This exciting project will further enhance Westview's social programs and many offerings for the patients and residents of the facility.

Administrator/CEO of Westview Health Care Center remarks, "In an effort to recognize the limited ability that many of our residents have to travel or leave the facility, this exciting concept brings a new "community" home to them. We are very excited to unveil this new concept to our Westview family."

This attractive corridor will include:
  • A 1950's Diner with an Ice Cream Parlor and General Store where residents will relive the memories of the do-wop days in this classic chrome-trimmed hangout. Favorite tunes of the fifties will play while residents browse the General Store or enjoy a treat at the working soda fountain.
  • Lights! Camera! Action! in a Surround Sound Theater venue will feature movies, live performances, ceremonies and special events.
  • A real working kiln will be the focal point for a newly renovated Arts and Crafts Pottery Shop. In addition to pottery classes, residents can work on a number of arts and crafts projects.
  • "City Place" Family Gathering Room is being designed with private celebrations in mind. Families and friends may utilize this space to celebrate the special occasions of those they love in a private and spacious setting that allows direct access to an outdoor gazebo.
  • Large print books line the reading room shelves at The Bugbee Memorial Library and Internet Nook. If Main Street seems too close to home, residents can globe-hop the world via the Internet.
  • A non-denominational interfaith Chapel welcomes all who wish to reflect, meditate or hold a small ceremony.
  • Residents attending The Senior Prom, sock hop or any number of Westview's themed functions may find a special outfit, costume and even enjoy a manicure at The Pretty In Pink Boutique.
  • As residents and family members are strolling Main Street USA they can stop and rest on the park benches in Central Park and enjoy the beautiful scenic setting of trees, plants, flowers, working fountain, and sounds of nature in Westview's indoor downtown common area.

Airbrushing and artistry of Westview's Main Street USA is the work of David Laabs, owner of The Airbrush Shack of Thompson.

Mr. Laabs states, "I have really enjoyed working on Westview's Main Street project. When I go to do a mural, I need to feel comfortable with the client and that level of comfort reflects in my painting. Working with customers like David Panteleakos, Administrator of Westview, on a project of this magnitude allows me the creative license to explore my imagination."

Mr. Laab's airbrush talent and artistry on murals can be found throughout New England in businesses, personal homes, automobiles, motorcycles, clothing and signage.

General Contractors for the project is Engineered Construction LLC in Plainfield, CT. The anticipated project completion date is December 2007.
