Press Release
December 2019 Employee of the Month

Date
January 19, 2020

Liliya Kamara, RN received the concluding staff acknowledgement of calendar year 2019 at Westview Health Care Center; becoming their December 2019 Employee of the Month. Since joining Westview in 2016, Liliya’s colleagues have seen her rise as an integral member of the second shift nursing corps in her role as a charge Nurse in the residential wings of the skilled nursing and rehabilitation center. In addition to her strong base of medical knowledge, Liliya possesses a level of compassion for patients—as well as their respective families—that is rooted in her own strong familial bonds.

Born in Russia, Liliya’s family moved to Kazakhstan when she was just two years old. In the year 2000 she moved to the United States of America and has been a Putnam resident ever since. In nearby Norwich, CT she earned an associates degree as a Registered Nurse. She is fluent in both Russian and English—abilities that are especially impressive when considering all of the medical terminology she can recite in both languages. Of her many academic and life accomplishments, Liliya designates her 2007 achievement of American citizenship as one of her proudest moments.

Liliya is an active member of High Pointe Church in Thompson and she is very active in the lives of her two girls. Liliya enjoys travelling to see new locations or familiar faces whenever possible. In between all of these moments she does her best to nourish and maintain her succulent plant collection.

At Westview Health Care Center, Liliya is an important figure on any wing of the facility where she is stationed. Arriving for the second shift (3:00-11:00 PM) she comes in at a very busy time in the transition from daytime to bedtime in residents’ daily lives. Whether her priority at the moment is making notations in a patient chart, delivering evening medications, or discussing the health and wellbeing with a given patient or their next of kin—Liliya makes every moment matter and every word worthwhile.

The daughter of a long-term resident once remarked that she values Liliya’s service at Westview because she, in turn, felt that she and her mother were so highly valued by Liliya. This led to the daughter remarking: “I knew that Liliya was 100% there for me—and 1000% for my mother.”

Liliya’s instincts are the result of her own personal connections as well as her professional training. She understands the importance of compassionate patient care and thoroughly informative discussions with their families. Her daughters Alina and Sofia are 10 and 4 years old, respectively, and they occupy a significant presence in her world. As she stated: “…they make my heart smile and fill my life with happiness and laughter.” When asked about being awarded this Westview designation for December 2019, Liliya expressed genuine astonishment. She went on to say: “It was a big surprise but I felt so honored and touched to be chosen as December Employee of the Month by my fellow staff members. Westview is an awesome place to work—coming here every day feels like coming home to a large extended family. Here, we all truly care.”

David T. Panteleakos, Administrator stated, “Liliya is an excellent nurse and a wonderful additional to our amazing team of health care professionals. It is the outstanding work of Liliya and her co-workers that make Westview so special.”
